Happy Anniversary! Cannabis 2.0 is here!

What’s new and what’s coming in the year ahead.

Happy Birthday Bud! Celebrating 1 Year of Legalization

It’s been a year since cannabis officially became legalized for recreational use in Canada and we’re excited about the new products that will be available beginning in December 2019.

We’ll never forget opening the doors of our first Delta 9 Cannabis store in St. Vital to a lineup of over 1,000 customers, and you’ve been coming back ever since, making our Dakota location one of the busiest cannabis stores in Canada.

Thank you for your ongoing support!

So what’s on the horizon? Well, there’s good news with a twist. The good news is that a wide range of new cannabis products will be legal as of October 17, 2019. The twist is that you won’t see these new products on shelves anywhere in Canada until sometime in mid-December, and you should expect a limited selection of products until we roll into 2020.

Why the delay?

The reason for the delay is a rule in the federal regulations that requires producers of finished products to give a 60-day notice to the government before public sales start, and since the regulations for the new product classes won’t be official until October 17, 2019, it will be mid-December before we see any of the new products on the shelves.

A reason to celebrate!

Earlier this year, Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries (MBLL) launched a Call for Listing requesting proposals from licensed suppliers to provide a legal source of Phase Two cannabis products for the province of Manitoba.

The information gathered from the Call for Listing was used to develop a revised product catalogue – including new product categories – and shared with Manitoba cannabis retailers to solicit their feedback and determine the level of interest in the newly available products.

The final result of the Call for Listing was hundreds of new products on the horizon in a variety of different categories, many of which have only been available on the black market up to this point. That’s reason for celebration!

What’s New? Vape Pens, Extracts, Edibles and Drinkables.

Vape pens and the cartridges that go with them are expected to be very popular among the new product offerings, as are edibles, which may include gummies, mints, chocolates and baked goods, and drinkables including cocktails, spritzers, fruit beverages, colas, sodas, mixers (distilled cannabis), sparkling/tonic water and tea.

Edibles and drinkables will be limited to a maximum of 10 mg of THC per serving. Cannabis-infused beverages will utilize new technologies such as nano-emulsification, which facilitates quicker absorption of active ingredients into your bloodstream, meaning you could begin feeling the onset of effects in as little as 10 minutes.

We’re getting hungry (and thirsty!) just thinking about all these new edibles and drinkables!

Hello Sapphire!

In the category of concentrates and extracts there will be a new Delta 9 listing for Sapphire, a dried and sieved powerhouse cannabis product also known as kief, with an extremely high THC potency of 32-34 percent. Recommended for experienced cannabis consumers only, Sapphire can be sprinkled onto a bowl, added to a joint, pressed into hash, heat pressed into rosin and can also be used for cooking.

There will be a number of new concentrates and extracts including rosin, resin and shatter coming to market, with more likely available in the second and third quarter of 2020. Also expected on shelves are a number of new topical lotions, creams and bath and beauty products.

Manitoba and Delta 9 ahead of the national curve.

Every province will be different and there are likely to be some delays, but Manitoba’s regulators and provincial distributors have done a great job of curating the Cannabis 2.0 product selection, putting Manitoba ahead of the national curve.

Delta 9 is definitely going to have a selection of new products available in mid-December including vape pens, edibles and drinkables, and we’re really looking forward to what our customers have to say about these new cannabis products.

The future is green!
